The Ag Teacher roles of FFA WEEK

This year during FFA WEEK We did many, many activities and events. Somehow we didn't end up with pictures from each event, but everything was fun and alot of work on my end.

we had a pancake breakfast and made a little over 200.00 and I made about 800 pancakes. My officers drove around town and took pancake orders, called me and then delivered them in their official dress. We also had students, teachers and community folk come to our breakfast as well.

We celebrated National Teach Ag Day by going to the primary school and teaching K - 3rd grades about various areas of agriculture. All 66 of my FFA members prepared 10 minute lesson plans to teach the different groups of students. We had many stations, including dummy roping (Im helping a little girl below - the picture is not my best side), rodeo dress up, planting veggies/flowers, cuttings, dairy cows, story time, a home made game of "are you smarter than a farmer?", FFA bean bag toss and many more. What is most awesome is that my students were the planners and organizers and we were asked to come back next year, which rocks!

Case also took part in FFA WEEK as he came with me to the pancake breakfast and our community dance. Here he is playing with his "yovel" in the yard.

We also went to the Lazy B and I gave horsemanship lessons, as well as we judged horses, cleaned pens, fed cattle at the feed lot and branded some bulls.

I'm glad its over, but Im already thinking about what to do next year....

Lazy B Ranch

Today I took some of my students to the historic Lazy B Ranch south east of Duncan on the border of Arizona and New Mexico. This ranch is incredible, with over 3,000 head of mother cows and calves and 200 bulls (the new foreman and father of one of my students is still counting) the size is amazing.
Todya my students learned about handling horses, grooming, shoeing and much more. The format for the day went as follows:
8:45 am - arrived at the ranch
9:00 - demonstrated grooming and saddling
9:30 - horseback rides
10:00 - judged a halter class
10:45 - gave reasons
11:00 - critqued horses (kudos to my horse judging team, they ran this part of the show and did awesome!)
12:00 - learned to shoe horses
12:15 - lunch
12:30 - fed cattle, branded 3 bulls
1:30 - loaded up on the bus and headed home!
way fun day! What more could you want? being able to work on a ranch and teach? Love it!

family pictures

We traveled to Globe this weekend to spend some time with family. Here are a few pictures taken in the dealership.

Life in the country..

We love the life we live, we are happy, and home is where we have placed our hearts, here in the small town of Sheldon.
