Onions, Garlic and Potatoes OOHHH MMMMYY!!!

rosemary
1/2 way frozen bell pepper... but its determined to survive!

Onions!!!
Making a swift getaway across the garden... oooohh I wish he would have gone around!!

Case with his tools

Today I needed to go work in garden for awhile and Case came with me to play outside for awhile, I bought him his own little garden tools and he played for a whole lot of 5 minutes before crawling over the garden and getting into trouble... boy oh boy!

I am soo excited that my green thumb is still growing! I have onions, garlic and potatoes coming up as well as my "cheater" plants that I bought at Wally World aka walmart. We did have a freeze the other night and i thought I lost my plants, but my cilantro, rosemary and part of my bell pepper plant survived. while, the bell pepper plant looks quite sad, it is still green and has some leaves.... the birds are vicious!!

I had 2 rows of radishes coming on, but the birds liked them a little much, so i planted my beets in a grow box and it is upstairs in our bedroom. I also have 20 okra plants that are about 4 inches tall with 4 leaves, I will be transplanting them soon.

Gardening is fun soo far!!

Oh, and I made salsa with my home grown cilantro over the weekend, and it was by far the best salsa I have ever eaten!!

growing up all too fast..

today when we got home from church, I put Case in his high chair and gave him some puffs while I got lunch ready. I began to think how big he has gotten and how far he has come in his ooh soo short year. I am amazed and how much he has grown and shocked at how much he eats! I know most of the pictures I post on this are when Case is eating, but that is one of his favorite things to do.

So, to add to the list of high chair shots, Case ate corn, cheese, sweet potato puffs and cubed pork tenderloin for lunch. The one thing I like about him eating big boy food, I don't spend ridiculous amounts of money on baby food anymore! yay!

Oh - and thw hoel corn allergy thing.. I think it was a phase, because he now loves the stuff and nothing weird of scary happens.

goodbye baby food!

This weekend Case decided he was through with the mushy, mucky, smelly baby food and moved onto the new adventure of big boy food! Sunday for lunch he enjoyed some roast, mashed potatoes, kidney beans and bread, then dinner included spaghetti and meat chunks (meat balls)....

take a look at a 1 year olds method of eating spagetti and meat balls!

what a bad day looks like

Case got a car from Rosemary, his nanny for his birthday. He loves it and I agree its a pretty cool thing. Its just one of the plastic ones that he can ride in, has a horn that honks, a key that clicks when you turn it and even a pretend gas tank that opens and closes. Everyday when I take him to her house, that is the first thing he goes to play with.

Well, today when I went to pick him up, he had had his first "crash" - he had been talking to the ladies and reached out the "windshield" to say hi, but reached a bit too far and fell out.. head first. He looks soooo sad!

Rosemary said he didn't cry much or for long, thankfully, but he does have a pretty sad shiner to show off!

It must not feel very good though, because he's been a bit cranky since we got home. Then again, who wouldn't be if they fell out of the windshield in their car for talking to the ladies!

Gosh, he's already crashing thanks to the girls... great....

Gardening is hard work!

Im sure you are wondering why I posted such a pecular picture.. really, who posts a picture of a garden faucet.....

I have begun my gardening hobby at home over this past week, being that it has been spring break and I needed something to do... although my original plan was to scrapbook the entire time... which that has not happed at all!! (massive run-on sentence, I know.)

Now i have been gardening at school quite a bit with my students, we have started bulbs of gladiolus and narcissis, transplanted them into the garden bed up at the district office, we have grown crops of hydroponic lettuce, basil and wheat grass in the classroom aquaponics system and we even have rosebushes that we planted and maintain weekly. However, I have not yet done vegetables with my students.... although we are on a vegetable unit currently, and I did tell my kids they have to have a vegetable garden at home.. I have grown tomatoes in pots and even when I was in highschool i did tons of hydroponics in the school greenhouse.... NONE THELESS, I personally have not grown a a vegetable garden that was larger than 25 square feet ever.... my garden now is 200 sq. ft. plus.... HUGE upgrade I know..
Yet, even though it is hard work, i do feel good when I get done making a row, or a number of rows and then planting them with crops that I know both Eric and myself enjoy, as well as our family. Plus, the excess I plan to sell at our local farmers market this summer.

If you enjoy crops such as rosemary, basil, sweet bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic, buching onions, bulbing onions, carrots, radishes, sweet corn, beets, jalepanos, big jim chile, watermelons, green beans and cantaloupes.. well, you better come visit me this summer!!!

feast your eyes on my hard work below, and look for more gardening adventures in the near future....
oh, and the garden faucet is a new addition thanks to my handy husband.. I have been wanting a faucet over my my koi pond since we moved to Duncan.. 2 years ago... now finally that i have taken a huge interest in gardening and landscaping our home, the husband finally decided I was deserving enough for a faucet, so I am quite proud of the faucet!!

I know this is a difficult picture to see anything but soil, but I have planted some freesias (which haven't come up yet) but there are some mysterious bulbs that have sprouted.. I say mysterious because I didn't plant them.. they were there from the pervious owner I guess... but there is also asparagus in this bed, and I am excited that it is coming up, because I love asparagus!

Now the picture below is our Mulberry tree, which Eric and one of my students pruned back, and then I took it upon myself to make a lovely rock formation around the base and I also planted some gladioli - plural for gladiolus I think... and mulched it.. my green thumb is growing!!

Now the two pictures above are my garden. The north and south portions. I have worked my tail off on the south portion, that is the lovely picture above the one above. I haven't yet started on the north side, but I have planted some transplants, so I am still excited!

Future hunter

Grampa Byrd gave Case some super cute jammies when he wasn't even born yet, I was waiting to get my C-section when my dad pulled out the cutest longhandles, with the butt flap and they are even Camoflauge, which means future hunting trips with Grampa and Dad!! Well, they are size 18 months, and Case won't be a year old until tomorrow and that is the size clothes he is wearing.... zipped right through the 12 month clothes... wow he is growing fast!

Case and his goats

so our internet has been down for over a week now, and lots has gone on since then! our herd of baby goats increased to six, and then twod ied.. just the way it goes I guess. well, the moma goat who had triplets must have thought all of her babies died because she refuses to have anything to do with the surviving baby.. so now, I am a new mama to a baby girl goat whom we have decided to call Sugar. Case loves her and she follows him everywhere!

Case and Sugar, hanging out in the goat pen

Case loves bananas. He even yells for them, I swear! Yesterday he had banana yogurt for the first time, and ate it in about 3 seconds.

Life in the country..

We love the life we live, we are happy, and home is where we have placed our hearts, here in the small town of Sheldon.
