Im sure you are wondering why I posted such a pecular picture.. really, who posts a picture of a garden faucet.....
I have begun my gardening hobby at home over this past week, being that it has been spring break and I needed something to do... although my original plan was to scrapbook the entire time... which that has not happed at all!! (massive run-on sentence, I know.)
Now i have been gardening at school quite a bit with my students, we have started bulbs of gladiolus and narcissis, transplanted them into the garden bed up at the district office, we have grown crops of hydroponic lettuce, basil and wheat grass in the classroom aquaponics system and we even have rosebushes that we planted and maintain weekly. However, I have not yet done vegetables with my students.... although we are on a vegetable unit currently, and I did tell my kids they have to have a vegetable garden at home.. I have grown tomatoes in pots and even when I was in highschool i did tons of hydroponics in the school greenhouse.... NONE THELESS, I personally have not grown a a vegetable garden that was larger than 25 square feet ever.... my garden now is 200 sq. ft. plus.... HUGE upgrade I know..
Yet, even though it is hard work, i do feel good when I get done making a row, or a number of rows and then planting them with crops that I know both Eric and myself enjoy, as well as our family. Plus, the excess I plan to sell at our local farmers market this summer.
If you enjoy crops such as rosemary, basil, sweet bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic, buching onions, bulbing onions, carrots, radishes, sweet corn, beets, jalepanos, big jim chile, watermelons, green beans and cantaloupes.. well, you better come visit me this summer!!!
feast your eyes on my hard work below, and look for more gardening adventures in the near future....
oh, and the garden faucet is a new addition thanks to my handy husband.. I have been wanting a faucet over my my koi pond since we moved to Duncan.. 2 years ago... now finally that i have taken a huge interest in gardening and landscaping our home, the husband finally decided I was deserving enough for a faucet, so I am quite proud of the faucet!!
I know this is a difficult picture to see anything but soil, but I have planted some freesias (which haven't come up yet) but there are some mysterious bulbs that have sprouted.. I say mysterious because I didn't plant them.. they were there from the pervious owner I guess... but there is also asparagus in this bed, and I am excited that it is coming up, because I love asparagus!
Now the picture below is our Mulberry tree, which Eric and one of my students pruned back, and then I took it upon myself to make a lovely rock formation around the base and I also planted some gladioli - plural for gladiolus I think... and mulched it.. my green thumb is growing!!

Now the two pictures above are my garden. The north and south portions. I have worked my tail off on the south portion, that is the lovely picture above the one above. I haven't yet started on the north side, but I have planted some transplants, so I am still excited!
good job katee! that is alot of work, you'll have some yummy veggies soon!
